Oregon Road Trip Part #1
We headed to Oregon after work on Friday July 2nd. Our trip was great. My Mom had the first leg of the trip. She made it 8 hours, to Sacramento, with me talking to her most of the way! Evs got his beauty sleep as he was driver #2. We had great tunes, lots of munching (mostly by me), lots of stops at the gas station, and made the most of the rest stop restrooms..eek..gross..(Mom and I did lots of hovering over the toilet); We brought along our puppy, Sage, and Mom's pupy, Libby, and they were both very good travelers.Evs had the second leg of the trip. He started the car at the gas station and noticed the battery light flashing, so he kept an eye on it while he drove. Well about 80 miles after we took off from Sacramento, Evs pulled off to the most lit gas station, as the battery was very low, and as he did the car died (he was truly guided). Long story short, we had to call AAA and the tow truck had to come and jump us. It was 4th of July weekend do almost every shop was closed for the entire weekend, except one, Frank's. We had enough juice in the battery to drive the mile it took to get to Frank's, but then the car died once again right in front of his shop. Mind you, this all happened at 3 AM! We had to wait/sleep uncomfortably, in front of Frank's shop until he rescued us at 7 AM. The alternator was bad and had to be replaced. Kragen Auto Parts happened to have an alternator in stock. Frank was so quick and put us on the top of his list to get on the road. He was a saint. We were on the road by 9 AM. Once we were on the road and drove a few more hours, we hit traffic..yuk. Well it was very unfortunate traffic, as the back end of a motor home and the car they were towing along caught on fire. We were very grateful all we had was an alternator issue. We were very blessed. Through our entire trip the Lord's hand was watching over us. We were protected and blessed with minor setbacks in time, but no injury or accident, which is what we prayed for before we left. How fortunate we were to see the small and simple things that make such a huge difference in our lives. I am very thankful for each hand that had a part in us getting to Oregon safely. Had it not been for the tender mercies of the Lord, I think I would have given up and drove to the nearest airport and flew the rest of the way! I am thankful to have learned this lesson and to enjoy such memories with my husband and Mom.
